An internship in Frankfurt with Ralf Lemster Financial Translations gave me the virus of financial translation, confirmed by a short internship in a leading German international property investment bank.
Member, French localizer and Moderator on ProZ.com for 2 years, I freelanced for a while before working in a French financial translation agency. Early 2009, I came all the way from Europe and settled in Argentina to join ProZ.com Staff as Conferences Coordinator.

| Cora Bastiaansen (Nyderlandai) | | | Bio: With a near native knowledge of French, after living in France for several years, Cora learned the techniques of translating and interpreting at the ITV in Utrecht. Her professional experience goes beyond the understanding of languages. Nursing, hotel management, and international cooperation are all fields where she was able to learn a lot. Today, Cora specializes in medical, technical, and cultural translations and she is currently studying literary translations at the VertalersVakschool in Amsterdam.Early 2005 she published her first book with travel stories about Burma; in 2007, she wrote the sequel. Her last book was about entrepreneurship for translators. (All books are in Dutch.) Recently she has taken up writing personal life stories.For her personal development and to keep up with the changes in her profession, Cora regularly follows courses in writing and translating.

| Han von den Hoff (Nyderlandai) | | | Bio: Han von den Hoff is sinds 1997 werkzaam bij de Raad voor Rechtsbijstand, aanvankelijk alleen als manager van de afdeling die een aantal taken uitvoert in het kader van de Wet schuldsanering natuurlijke personen. In 2002 kreeg hij ook het beheer van het voormalige Kwaliteitsregister tolken en vertalers onder zijn hoede. In dit informele register legde de Raad gegevens vast van tolken en vertalers die gekwalificeerd waren om voor opdrachtgevers binnen het Justitiedomein te werken. Op 1 januari 2009 kreeg dit register een formele opvolger in de vorm van het Register beëdigde tolken en vertalers. De Raad voor Rechtsbijstand is door de minister van Justitie aangewezen om naast het beheer van dit register vrijwel alle andere wettelijke en ondersteunende taken in het kader van de Wet beëdigde tolken en vertalers uit te voeren.

Kees van der Zwart is a sworn translator (English/Dutch), president of the Netherlands Society of Interpreters and Translators (NGTV) and a member of the committee on translation services (CEN/NEN EN 15038) of the Dutch standardization institute NEN.

| Marcel Lemmens (Nyderlandai), Teamwork (Marcel Lemmens) | | | Bio: Marcel Lemmens studeerde Engels in Tilburg en Nijmegen. Hij is zijn carrière begonnen als parttime docent Engels aan een school voor voortgezet onderwijs (1980-1985). Van 1984 tot 1987 werkte hij als parttime vertaler/correspondent bij Turmac Tobacco Company in Zevenaar. In 1985 en 1986 werkte hij mee aan de totstandkoming van het COBUILD-woordenboek. Bovendien heeft hij samen met Prof. Dr. Herman Wekker gepubliceerd over grammatica in woordenboeken. Van 1987 tot 2000 was hij werkzaam als docent Engels aan de Faculteit Tolk-Vertaler van de Hogeschool Maastricht, de eerste tien jaar in een fulltime dienstverband, daarna als parttimer. Sinds 2000 is hij fulltime actief als zelfstandig vertaler, editor, cursusontwikkelaar en taaltrainer. Daarnaast werkt hij op freelance basis als eindredacteur voor Uitgeverij Malmberg in 's-Hertogenbosch.

| Marga Demmers (Nyderlandai) | | | Bio: After having worked in Granada (Spain) for two years as an office manager and part-time interpreter, I decided to take a degree in Spanish and Catalan at Leiden University (Netherlands), where I graduated in 1982. The start of a lifelong love affair with these two languages and cultures. And I never stopped studying. Since 2004 I am an enthusiastic student of Catalan Philology at the Open University of Catalonia, gaining even more knowledge of this language and literature. In my spare time (if any) I try to keep up with the latest novels in English and Catalan, and I also like to translate Catalan poetry into Dutch. As a sworn translator I specialise in legal and business documents for a variety of clients. I alternate this work with interpreting projects which take me from court rooms to television studios as well as prisons. No need to say I am enjoying my job immensely!

| Percy Balemans (Nyderlandai), PB Translations | | | Bio: Percy graduated in 1989 from the Opleiding Tolk-Vertaler (School for Translation and Interpreting) in Maastricht, the Netherlands. After having worked with a translation agency as an in-house translator for a couple of years, she switched to the IT business, where she worked as a technical writer and copywriter, information designer, web editor and trainer. Translation, however, has always been her real passion and in 2007 she set up her own business as a full-time freelance translator, specialising in advertising and marketing material (transcreation), human rights, ICT and travel and tourism. She is a member of the Netherlands Society of Interpreters and Translators (NGTV) and an Associate of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI).

| Rolf Klischewski (Vokietija) | | | Bio: When I was still studying English, German and Journalism I joined Blue Byte Software, a high-profile German games publisher, as Localization Manager. After one-year stints at two now-defunct game development studios (Similis Software and Westka Interactive) I made one small step for mankind, but one huge step for myself and became freelance translator. After specializing in DVD subtitling for quite a few years, I more and more focussed on getting back into the games industry and games localization, until I translated nothing but games. Today I still translate games, but I also consult games publishers and developers when it comes to localizing their products, coordinate multi-lingual games translations, and teach Games Localization and Subtitling at Lessius Hogeschool in Antwerp, Belgium, which is something I really enjoy. And last but not least, I'm a member of the editorial board of The Journal of Internationalisation and Localisation [JIAL] and I host the annual German game developer event "Game Forum Germany" in Hanover.

| Susan van den Ende (Nyderlandai) | | | Bio: By all accounts, Susan is definitely one of the most passionate PMs in the industry. She studied English and earned minors in German and Indonesian, and is now learning Spanish as well. She never considered a career in translation until she read about a job opening as a project manager at Vertaalbureau.nl. A short three weeks later, she had started her new career in Amsterdam. In addition to her strong language skills, her main asset is without a doubt a special knack for cooperation that gets translators to work with Vertaalbureau.nl, rather than for them.

| Tony Parr (Nyderlandai), Teamwork (Tony Parr) | | | Bio: Tony Parr studeerde Nederlands en Frans aan de universiteit van Cambridge en begon in 1980 zijn werkzaamheden als vertaler bij Vertaalbureau Bothof in Nijmegen. Van 1983 tot 1988 werkte hij bij de vertaaldienst van de toenmalige NMB Bank in Amsterdam, vanaf 1986 als senior vertaler. Van 1988 tot 1996 was hij werkzaam als docent Engels aan de Faculteit Tolk-Vertaler van de Hogeschool Maastricht. Sinds 1996 werkt hij fulltime als zelfstandig vertaler en editor voor verschillende organisaties, zoals banken, accountantskantoren en ministeries. Hij vertaalt met name allerlei vormen van bedrijfscommunicatie, zoals persberichten, verslagen en artikelen voor personeelsbladen. Hij is voormalig examinator bij de Stichting Nationale Examens Vertaler en Tolk (SNEVT) en voormalig docent van de SIGV.

| Willemien Op den Orth (Nyderlandai) | | | Bio: Willemien Op den Orth MA (native languages: Italian and Dutch) studied Italian and Russian at the universities of Milan, Moscow and Amsterdam. Since graduating in 1987, she has acquired broad experience in translating and interpreting for governmental, management, commercial and technical organizations, including interpreting for specialists in on-the-job training programmes.
As a certified translator (Russian and Italian) she has translated texts on a wide range of subjects, including articles of association, agreements and contracts, annual reports etc. and has also worked as an interpreter for the courts and lawyers.
She has published articles in the daily newspaper De Volkskrant, the weekly Vrij Nederland and Elsevier, worked as an editor for the foreign desk of several TV news programmes and directed documentary items for the VPRO, one of the Dutch broadcasting companies.
Since setting up Business Interpreters in 1990 in Amsterdam, she has been working with a close-knit team of experienced translators and interpreters.
Some ten years ago she developed RSI, caused by the many repetitive movements and prolonged sitting involved in her work as a translator. After struggling along for some time, shopping around for possible cures and taking plenty of exercise, with varying but certainly not very convincing results, she discovered Chi Neng Qigong. This appealed to her so much (not least because her symptoms quickly subsided) that she decided to train as an instructor so that she could share her positive experiences of this Chinese movement and meditation technique with others. She studied at the Chi Neng Institute Europe and had lessons with the Chinese instructors Ooi Kean Hin, Li Hongshi and Liu Jun Laoshi.
