I've had enquiries through LinkedIn but I'm not sure if any of them has translated into actual work. That's not really what I use LI for though. I do find it useful for keeping up with reading in my field - I follow a lot of people who post articles about renewables in German, Dutch and English, for example.
I think you could definitely make good use of LinkedIn for marketing but it would require significantly more effort than just setting up a profile and waiting for the enquiries ... See more

One of my best clients, my favourite agency, found me through LinkedIn. And a client of the agency I used to work at even set up her own profile to be able to contact me once she discovered I had left. I have connected with quite a few people there and it's useful in case I ever need to contact them, in case they've changed their email or whatever.
