English term or phrase: proprietary concept
Machine learning is certainly not the only way to handle demand planning of long-tail items. For example, JDA Software has its slow mover planning and replenishment system (built off the proprietary xxxx concept) that addresses this problem much more precisely through Integer Forecasting, a patented approach. And there are many other approaches by supply chain software vendors when it comes to demand modeling (forecasting, planning, shaping, sensing, etc.). But most of these vendors are also looking at possibilities of machine learning complementing and augmenting their approaches. Thus prospective demand planning software users will have to be cognizant of machine learning and other possible methods, and carefully evaluate and test whether all these concepts can work well for their particular needs and environments.

agree  ph-b (X): concept exclusif/protégé par le droit de propriété - même si ça va être difficile à insérer dans la trad :-)/D'accord avec D. > protégé/couvert par un droit d'exclusivité

agree  Daryo: proprietary concept = concept exclusif = no one else is doing it the same way // "protégé par le droit de propriété" not always true + not the key point

disagree  Daryo: that's a quite common translation, but misses the key point + many "proprietary" solutions are simply protected by secrecy not by patents!

disagree  AllegroTrans: proprietary doesn't mean patented per se
