Source text - English If we compare the engine to the heart of the car, the car-mounted communication network can be compared to the vehicle nervous system. The car network system allows the electronic controllers of different devices to communicate and work with each other. The car network with the help of the communication protocol, through the twisted pair wires, coaxial cable or fibres, makes all the electronic control units, sensors, and instruments connected. The types of the in-vehicle network include Local Interconnect Network (LIN), Controller Area Network (CAN), Media Oriented System of Transport (MOST and Ethernet; different network protocols have different functions and serve different purposes.
In this thesis, the communication between the information from the car sensors and the display panel is done through the Controller Area Network; CAN Bus. CAN Bus communication protocol was presented by the German Bosch company at the American Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) meeting in 1986 (3). This protocol is a two-wire full-duplex serial communication protocol, which later became a standard communication interface in the international ISO-11898 standard. The protocol can support the decentralised control systems effectively, it is widely used in automotive, and nautical environments as the communication protocol for the information flow between the various components. However, due to the reliability of, multi host node, guaranteed delay and other features of CAN Bus, it is also suitable for the industrial control applications. In recent years, CAN Bus is used in data transmission and control in industrial control, including elevator control, factory machines motor control, building automation and medical devices and other areas. As the automotive industry continues pursuing safety and reliability, high performance, easiness and comfort of use and the other needs, the vehicle manufacturers are also constantly adding many new features to increase the added value of the car. A large number of electronic devices and sensing elements has to be installed in the vehicle, thus increasing the complexity of the entire system. The system complexity is leading to the growth of wiring harness, and thus leading to the cost increase and difficulties to improve the network architecture. CAN provides a highly secure and efficient real-time serial communication, it also allows the debugging and priority differentiation mechanism. With CAN protocol, the message transmission in the network becomes more reliable and efficient.
