I think it may have been when I was on a mission in Japan in 1990 to study the status of their machine translation systems. My name was printed in Japanese on the back. In those days at least, name cards were very important for doing business in Japan. | | | EvaVer (X) Local time: 17:17 Czech to French + ...
...but not to a client, to a company doing work on my house, to provide my contact information. I had a stock of business cards made 20 years ago, still plenty left! | | | I can't remember | Jul 28, 2018 |
Aren’t they dead? I have two boxes of personal business cards I ordered online when I moved back to Lisbon 3 years ago, but if I remember right I only handed out two: one to the bank manager when I opened my bank account and another one when I delivered a translation to a lawyer in his office. Just in case, I always have a few business cards in my handbag…

Unlike translators (and other specialists mostly working with papers), interpreters (and other people working with other people) often exchange biz cards. The last time I had business cards was in my last in-house job in 2013. Since then, they are in a box next to the paper dictionaries, a fax machine and other useless stuff in the basement, waiting for clean-up day.
I made some for a Pow-wow, years ago, and never used them again. We've changed the family business setup and really should get round to making some cards, but no one remembers ... too many other things to do. Obviously we've never felt the need.

I hosted a party for some friends as a last-minute favour, and I met some people there who have since contacted me for work, very interesting stuff at that. I always have a slim case with a handful in just in case, but I rarely hand them out. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: When was the last time you gave out a business card?
