Define "regularly". I don't always use a proofer for every job. However, I do work in collaboration on a regular basis with 2 or 3 trusted colleagues, if I think it's necessary and if they are available, etc. | | |
My translations are always proofread by me (from one to several times depending on the text, the last one consisting of reading aloud the whole text) and then some are sent to my proofreader: I have an arrangement with a trusted colleague (we worked in-house together for 20 years) where we proofread each other's work. I work with a few translation agencies that I know have their own proofreaders and over the years I developed a mutually beneficial relationship with them. One of these agencies (the only one, I must admit) even sends the proofread files for my final approval. ▲ Collapse | | | From time to time | Aug 10, 2018 |
Depends on how much direct client work I do + some direct clients are not willing to pay the extra 30-35% that comes with external proofreading. Some agencies ask me to send my work directly to their freelance proofreader, but I don't believe this is what you mean by "external proofreader".

only when the client asks me to supply an external proofreader (which adds to my price). But it's quite rare as most agencies have their own proofreaders, reviewers and QA software. My own routine is: 1) translating a draft 2) finalizing it 3) proofreading once (in rare cases twice, if I know the client does not use proofreader).

It costs extra, and it takes time to arrange for a proofreader. I only do it when asked expressly by a client. Most of the time I work with agencies who arrange for proofreading as required - and sometimes pay me to proofread other people's translations. The rates they pay me are not high enough to cover external proofreading, but it is not a problem when they arrange for it separately. | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 04:44 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ...
And that's why I deliver high-quality work, always on time or in advance. Revisers have only caused trouble in my professional life, sorry. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Do you regularly work with an external proofreader?
