Last time I shut down my computer was two weeks ago — I only turn it off for cleaning purposes. Restarts are necessary for some software updates, but other than that, it is on most of the time. Computers were made to run 24/7 after all, and even though modern hardware makes boot times negligible, I like to have it ready to go whenever I need it. | | | A couple of times a day | Oct 15, 2018 |
Basically, I turn my computer off when I am not using it. It 'comes up again' very fast, and turning it off is partly a habit. I had an earlier model that used to 'go to sleep' automatically, and then I was never quite certain what happened when I tried to wake it up again. If I just go for a quick break, I minimise or close files, and leave the computer running, but when I take longer breaks - for lunch or supper - I turn it right off. Then at least I get a warning before Windows 10 hi-jacks my computer... On one occasion I thought I was going to do a quick rushed job for a client, and had to wait a couple of hours before I could begin. ▲ Collapse | | | Turning off the Computer | Oct 15, 2018 |
Hi, I switch on the computer in the morning when I start work. In between, when I am not working , I put it in SLEEP mode, so that I can switch it ON back quickly without waiting for it to boot. At the end of the days work, I switch it off at night. Regards, Devanathan. | | | Sleep mode and | Oct 15, 2018 |

I turn it on as soon as I wake up and turn it off before going to bed. Since I don't have cable tv, I watch Netflix and other such sites on my computer. | | | When I am not using it. | Oct 15, 2018 |
I turn my computer off when I am not using it. I can use it any time of the day or night. | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 09:13 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ...
I use a desktop, and I turn it off every night when I go to sleep. There are two reasons for that, and I know I'm and old paranoid: 1. Turned on or in sleep mode, it's wasting energy for nothing (yes, an infimous amount), and it's against my principles. 2. Turned on or in sleep mode, it's connected to the internet and hackers can handle it. Hi Mario. I wouldn’t call this being paranoid. Just normally security-conscious. If you think you get less problem as a result, then it must be a good way! | |

...I have to deliver any project in the morning. My laptop is new and really fast, but opening all documents again when I am in a hurry makes me stressed, so on those days, I just leave it on sleep mode during the few hours of sleep... | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How often do you turn your computer off?
