Yes Dec 17, 2018

I plan to keep translating, of course. In addition, I will be working on two books that I'm writing.

I'm also working with my HOA to design a new rock garden and other changes to our 38-acre landscape. I'm on the HOA board, so that work will continue as well.

I will also continue to meet with two other groups that I belong to, as well as a yoga class.

Finally, I plan to get organize or toss ll the papers that are piled up in my office!

2019 goals Dec 17, 2018

Yes - I have about 15 goals to further grow my business in 2019.
I did a lot of planning ahead in 2018 and it definitely helped me achieve more in terms of productivity, marketing myself, etc. so I have more time to actually translate.

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" Dec 17, 2018

Now I mostly work with local direct clients and we have long-term projects, yet I also diversify my incomes.
I'm going to win, that's why my plans for [at least near] future are not like a house of cards.

However, I can't help smiling when I see young ardent businessmen working hard for the sake of money itself as they forget it's not the goal, not the end in itself--just a mean of achieving something

Waiting On The Go-Ahead From Two Repeat Clients Dec 17, 2018

Just waiting to hopefully get the go-ahead very soon for two book projects in 2019—one a self-help book from Portuguese, the other a 550,000-page history book from Italian—for a couple of loyal repeat clients.

Right now both have been put on hold because of another author who's involved and a publisher's issue.

550,000 pages should keep you quiet for a while!

This kind of plan is so funny! Dec 18, 2018

Year-end plans, promises and the like are very funny. Why should you make positive plans and promises only for the new year? These things must be routine, i.e. permanent things, not only in a specific date.

Big year ahead... Dec 18, 2018

Well, 2019 will be a year full of changes, we'll see how it goes.
I'm pregnant now and baby is due in April. Plus, after his birth I might start working as a freelancer instead of working in the Translation Company I'm currently on. So, let's see how it goes.
I'm looking forward to grow my freelance business, diversify it and make a stable income out of it. Plus, if you have any suggestions please let me know

Keep on searching for more medical translation jobs and improve my translation skillss in this area Dec 18, 2018

I have been specialising in medical translation for the last two years, by taking extra courses at the University of Gent, by following webinars on Proz.com and by translating many texts in order to improve my medical translation. Still, it is not easy to get more medical translation jobs, so I intend to look for more and different ways to improve my chances.

Pre-planning is the name of the game in 2019 Dec 18, 2018

This is what I've just started doing for the next year and it's great to know that pre-planning freed up more time for you to focus on the actual job of translation, Luna. Hopefully, I'll get to enjoy the benefits of that in 2019.

As a freelancer, I am the one who has to self-motivate myself to grow and expand my clientele and increase more profitable sources of income.

In 2019, I plan to connect with more colleagues in my working languages and explore a buddy system or team that can help with the managing of fluctuating work volume. I also aim to woo clients that can pay better rates, which will allow me to partner up with a proofreader/editor to churn out better quality translation that will serve my clients better. I should also assign some time to training and development (no idea what at the moment).

There... I've typed this out and shared it here, which will be good reason for me to follow through with it.

Thank you to all the colleagues who shared (or who will share subsequently) in this thread. It's great to have this community here where we can share ideas and motivate each other.

Happy Holidays to all in advance!

Best regards,
Wei

P.S. Anyone who has experience with the setting up of a buddy system or team, or who provides editing/proofreading services in either English or Simplified Chinese, and would like to share more information about it with me, please send me a message on ProZ.

There is a big decline in Spanish to English Projects Dec 18, 2018

There is a big decline in my specialities in Spanish to English Projects, so I have not been able to find any work nor can I afford to finance my membership on ProZ.com. Trados Studio is very expensive too, so I no longer have CAT tools nor ProZ.com membership, so I just don't know how I will be able to survive during 2019.

I hope all goes well for everyone else.

Happy 2019.
