Katerina O. Jan 25, 2015:
These are cards that are yet to be played. In the article that's Lesin, judging from the last part of the article. - just an assumption as i'm not really aware of the situation

thank you! better late... :) I have already forgotten the context too. concerning прикуп: "В каждой сдаче играют три игрока. Раздается по 10 карт. Две оставшиеся карты называются прикупом, и их содержание никому неизвестно до момента окончания торговли." Hence, somebody may be referres to as a card "in prikup" if he/she so far is not an active/known "card in the game", i. e. unknown future influencer.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'm very sorry for the long delay in grading (two years!) To be honest, I still don't fully understand this term, and I can't remember what I used in my translation. But I think I probably used something based on your version."

not broke even

Declined
Из покерных терминов: Pat = Без прикупа – В покерных играх с дро остаться без прикупа означает не взять никаких карт для завершения своего дро (неполной комбинации). Неприкупная рука – это рука, не требующая улучшения.
Break even = In Gambling, when one has gained and then lost, or lost and then gained, returning to the amount of money they had upon commencement and walks away, they are said to have broken even.

disagree The Misha : This is ungrammatical, not to mention that the traditional Russian reference is not so much to poker but to preferans. As such, it has nothing to do with breaking even. It rather means "what's still to come".BTW,the EN term for prikup is talon, not draw.
