phone numbers
This is a phone number on a Moroccan medical document. There isn't much context, other than the rest of the contact details for the company (name, address, fax no.)
"Tél (LG): xxxxxxxxxx"
The only thing I can think of is maybe a free phone number so "ligne gratuit" perhaps? I can't find anything concrete to support this though.
Thanks in advance!

French term (edited):
Tél (LG)= ligne générale
Tel. (switchboard)
I'm pretty sure this is what it must mean here: if no other specific department numbers are listed, they may have thought it useful to explain that this one number would enable you to contact any department via the switchboard.
I think this is the way it is usually referred to in EN-GB, at least.

: Definitely think it means "ligne générale" based on Morocco-specific searches. Most results for ‘"Tél (LG)" maroc’ show easy-to-remember numbers typically used for switchboards, and many include separate numbers such as "Tél (SAV)" [service après-vente]

The discussion board is bugging, so I'm posting this info here:

+212-80-xxxxxxx 080-xxxxxxx toll-free and shared-cost services
There are many area codes for Casablanca. Check the one you have in the list.
The point about area and other codes is that they provide you with information if you know where to look.
I worked in telecoms for many years.

Actually, one workaround is to forget about LG completely, since it seems to be fairly redundant information anyway, whichever way you interpret it.

Saeed, what you have posted is of great help, thanks!
Excellent idea, ormiston! Or just ask the client or ask the agency to ask the client.
Or ask the person who picks up on the number. (Tomorrow, as it appears that Morocco's working week is Mon.-Fri.)

: It's not the consensus. A couple of people have suggested it, and I believe it's wrong. Why would anyone want to know what make of telephone they use?

Ok, let me call it the majority opinion then, or even just an opinion suggested by a few people. I am not fully sure about the switchboard bit, that's why I suggested that the Emily check the tel. code against the list provided, to explore other options.

: I have to agree with Phil here — it would seem almost infantile to (proudly?) mention which brand of switchboard you use? Perhaps if it were 'PABX' or ISDN' it might have made some sense...

Something something something "else"? Cinn = plural of ceann? ;-) / One out of five ain't bad, 30 years after my last lessons! I did recognise the verb form and of course "leis" and "na" (the) also. Not too shabby.

It's my answer. I was out of the office for a while, and I already thought about it, especially whether "(LG) could mean a department or is obsolete. As the client considers this point irrelevant, Emily can now decide as she likes.

Discussion
Us struggling over 20-character reference numbers and the like in pre-OCR days!
Ah well.
When I started out in translation, we would just put "From X to Y" at the top of the letter, and the date, and the reference, and no one ever complained. Nowadays, agencies expect you to reproduce every single piece of information, and the layout itself - even things like their bank account number and how to get to their offices on public transport.
Your client's comment about this information not being important is very telling. Essentially, they're being charged extra for stuff they don't need.
It's always comforting to assume that the line will not be busy every time you call. A real plus.
La nuit devrait porter conseil. LG = Lignes Groupées ?
@Conor I'm afraid I don't want to post the number, not even part of it, I'm not sure it will help anyway. The location is Casablanca in Morocco if that helps
Could it be 'ligne générale', which in EN we'd probably give as 'switchboard', if they maybe also give some direct line numbers to specific departments; a clue to this might be if ends in say -00, whereas all the direct line numbers end with the digits representing their extension number, say?

Could you post the area code/first few digits of the phone number?
