English term

whole

English Social Sciences General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Dear colleagues,
I’m not sure about the meaning of “whole” in the following sentences. My doubt derives from the fact that in this book (IntraConnected by Daniel Siegel) “whole” is often used to mean “totality” (e.g. intraconnected whole), while in the following examples I feel it may have another meaning, perhaps, "healthy" or feeling well.
I've seen that from an etymological point of view “heal” comes from “whole”... Might "whole" have a double meaning in the following sentences, that is “healthy” and “being complete”?
Thank you so much for your help!

As an attachment researcher who has applied these scientific findings to the practice of psychotherapy for over thirty-five years, I find it exciting and deeply rewarding to consider using the same principles of healing – *** of becoming whole *** – to address our larger cultural challenges, expanding on these lessons of individual growth.

**********************

MWe (me + we) do not need to be afraid of releasing any filters that keep us from being fully present and realizing the reality of our intraconnection – from empowering the healing, *** the making whole ***– that the linking of love creates.

************************
Taking care of our body – sleeping well, eating well, nurturing our body and caring for its needs, enjoying our body – is our identity lens focusing on the inner self, our identity within our skin-encased body that we get to keep for this personal lifetime. We can feel fully connected to our body, and within that inner sense, *** we feel whole ***
(my doubt: does whole mean: we feel well, or we feel complete?)

*******************************

Integration is the mechanism of health, *** of being whole ***, of being resilient, of thriving.

complete

The sentences provided seem to address a holistic sense of health or being, so the use of "whole" here seems in line with other uses you referenced pertaining to "totality." Merriam Webster lists "complete" as the sixth definition, and it may be helpful to look at their definition of holism as well, which I've included in web references.
Example sentence:

I felt like a whole person again after vacation.

Being complete in mind and body

... it could be seen as someone who is healthy, but I think it's not just in a physical sense as people can be very fit physically and yet be mentally unfit.

Considering the context of the book, I think it has to mean fully connected, integrated. Livi g a wholesome lifestyle too and eating well
