English term

consejero delegado

English to Spanish Social Sciences Government / Politics
This is in a POLITICAL context. In the document there is a reference to the "Consejero de Educacion y cultura del Cabildo Insular de Fuerteventura, which after checking previous kudoz questions I have translated as "Minister for...". This is then followed by reference to another official, the 'consejero delegado'. Would it be the acting or deputy minister? (Clearly it's not managing director because its not a business context). Thanks in advance!

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Nov 4, 2004:
explanation The answer I gave the points to was the most helpful in terms of the discussion of the problem on the basis of the information I gave, even though it didn't give a straight 'answer'. I have not entered this in the glossary. Its correct to say it should have been listed as Span>Eng, so apologies for any confusions caused there.
Mats Wiman Nov 3, 2004:
This question should be squashed. It is listed as eng>spa. 2 of us took it as spa>eng because the heading and the question was in Spanish. It is the first time someone repeated the question as the answer, getting points for it.

In the case of a junta, a consejero is a minister, but a cabildo insular is more like a county council, so it would be councillor, not minister

consejero delegado

Yes, the institution is in fact a town, so it`s a councillor in the firt case, but I am not sure what is the post in the second case since it is clearly a document from Spain, and there they have their own concept for "consejero delegado" in a town. If it were a corporation it would be CEO, but it is not. I hope this will help you a little.
