English term

competition

English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
The key is to make mistakes faster than the competition, so you have more chances to learn and win.

John Holt. Well-known phrase. Explicit general meaning. Vague grammatical meaning for me. "than the competition..." what? Could you, please, reword it so that it is easier for translation.
Thank you.

Your interpretation is correct. The competition means people/companies you compete against

It is best to make a mistake before the people you compete against do. This would enable you to learn from these mistakes before they do, putting you in a better position.

agree Charlie Bavington : As in your added note, "faster" here doesn't literally mean "at a greater speed" but rather, as is common in English, "at an earlier point in time" - sooner, if you like.
