Context (description of the structure of a wind turbine blade): "...die Holzmatte, die ... in der Mitte des mehrschichtigen Gelages eingebettet ist." Wherever I look I can only find "Gelage" = "feast, banquet, orgy"! Does the usage here derive from "Lage" = "layer"? Can "Gelage" be translated "sandwich" here?

Jo, my answer is based on the assumption that it may be a misspelling of "Belag(es)" as this would at least make sense. However, if my assumption is wrong then I cannot think what "Gelages" might be.

Let us assume that the blade is made of fibreglass, then the wooden mat is embedded in a "Gelage" = "various layers" of fibreglass sheeting; the usage of "Gelage" seems to be very rare, there is one Google hit on "Multilayer plastic composite panel" where the German word is used; so Ellen's "multilayered structure" was going in the right direction
