German term

"Unterkopfübergang"

German to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
Hi all,

I need help in translating the term "Unterkopfübergang". The context is: Bei harten Scheiben besteht jedoch die Gefahr, daß sich der Scheibenrand in den ‎Unterkopfübergang der Schraube eindrückt und die Schraube dadurch schädigt. ‎

Thanks a lot in advance.

Is it the shank? Some of the definitions I've found say it's the whole of the screw except the head, and others that it's the bit between the head and the thread.

section under the screw head

this is what I think is meant in this text about washers and screws

agree philgoddard : Yes, it appears to be the bit between the head and the thread. I don't know if this has a name in English (it doesn't look like it does in German, since the word gets so few Google hits).
