I've seen a picture of this 'Aufzug' and it looks like a very long mechanical ladder which can be extended to transport a piano upwards. The piano is not suspended in mid-air, as with a crane. I've often seen these contraptions propped up against a building block for heavy transport purposes. Some kind of hoist? Although I think that involves things dangling in the air......
