Online contract
This sounds reasonable and gets lots of google hits. My first thought when I saw the question was "electronic contract," but it seems to have a different meaning, according to what google brought up. Still sounds all right to me, but to avoid any possible confusion, "online contract" may be a safer bet.

: I initially thought on similar lines except that this kind of contract is not limited to on-line but seems to include telephone and fax. Also "correspondence contract" is used by tour operators in Japan but not in English-speaking jurisdictions.

The Japanese credit card system is woefully antiquated (thanks to Sumitomo's strangehold on Visa)--especially when it comes to consumer protection issues. But then what else is new in Japan?
My latest Canadian travel agent doesn't have such provisions, but because of the large sum involved and the fact that neither I nor my credit card have Canadian addresses, we decided that it was best all around for them to e-mail me a form that I signed and sent back.

A \"not-in-person contract\" is just too clumsy. Besides, the issue is what constitutes a binding contract? A signature on a piece of paper (credit card slip, letter, fax, whatever) is all very well, but, as snowbees\' JTB reference points out, there are times when signatures are not available: phone, Internet, e-mail, etc.
Personal comment: JH toll booths don\'t require a signature. Neither to Famima Card purchases under 10,000.

And I repeat: signed correspondence is enough to make the contract binding.
