Hi everybody,

I would like to know how to update the repeated segments in a file after translation, i.e. at the proofreading/editing stage.

My problem is that I edit one segment (change some word or comma) and then press Alt+ Ins and then the same segment appears again later in the file but Transit does not alert me of that and does not make any automatic change (I spend time looking for similar segments or have to rely on my memory). Hi everybody,

What am I doing wrong? Is there any way to make this change automatically? Which working mode should I have activated? Is it Check 1?

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Best regards,

Search/Replace Jun 14, 2007

You are doing nothing wrong, Transit works like that.
There is no autopropagation of such updates, as far as I know. However, watch the fuzzy matches window, the best match sentence comes up there, and it may contain the update. (If there are only 2 occurrences of the same sentence, and you correct the first, then the updated sentence will be displayed in the Fuzzy index window when you get to the second occurrence. However, it is not indicated that it has just been changed.) You can use

You can use Alt+Enter to move between the target language window and the Fuzzy index window; this key combination even inserts the sentence from the Fuzzy window).
Just the straightforward solution comes to my mind: use the search and replace function. However, if you have tags in the segment it may not work.

another solution Jun 14, 2007

Hi Noemi,

As Attila says, this is not automatic (even in the Professional Version) - and is not always desirable, especially in headings.

My solution:
I skip ALL segments with >85 fuzzy matches during the translation stage i.e. leaving them untranslated. I change their segment status to "check 1" with a macro or with Alt+E-S-1 (English version). This means Transit automatically skips past them at the translation-check stage although I can still see them. Before

Hi Noemi,

My solution:
I skip ALL segments with >85 fuzzy matches during the translation stage i.e. leaving them untranslated. I change their segment status to "check 1" with a macro or with Alt+E-S-1 (English version). This means Transit automatically skips past them at the translation-check stage although I can still see them. Before the final proofreading, I filter the "check 1" segments and change the segment status to "not translated". This means that the latest (i.e. final) fuzzy match automatically appears during proofreading and I don't have to rely on my memory. In some cases where there are loads of fuzzies the initial skipping takes extra time; however, this time will have been more than regained by the final stage because I only need to translate, check and proofread the first instance once.

You haven't mentioned whether you are using Satelite or the full version. I can't remember what the Satellite capabilities are, but you should be able to find a similar workaround.
