Olga Kuchuk I'd received the mentioned message last week. The agreement attached says that a translator should make a security deposit of 30 USD and that they will take 0.1% of all money earned by the translator. The real Gengo, thank you for your warning! I was about to answer them. | | | Toby Wakely Spain Local time: 17:28 Spanish to English + ... Yes, instantly recognizable as a scam | Dec 4, 2015 |
Exactly same format as Q and A scam a couple of months ago - I´m not so easily taken in now. I would never make any advance payment to an agency- there´s their motive for the scam!

Tom in London wrote: I googled for Gengo because I had no idea what it is. Here's the result I got: Gengo is a web-based human translation platform headquartered in Tokyo. ..... Headquarters: Mountain View, California, United States Make up your minds! The first sentence that you quote is from Wikipedia. Clearly the Wikipedia author believes that Gengo's head office is in Tokyo. However, the company's offices are mentioned clearly on Gengo's own web site as well. On Gengo's own web site, the Tokyo office is not labelled "head office" at all. When the two offices (Japan and USA) are mentioned, the Tokyo office is always mentioned first, which can lead one to suspect that the Tokyo office is the head office. I have no idea where the second sentence that you quote is from. Gengo's USA office is not in Mountain View at all, but some 35 km further up the road, in San Mateo. The legal agreements that non-Chinese and non-Japanese translators have to sign, refer to the USA office alone, and stipulate the USA office is the "office" of the company. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » [Warning] Scammers impersonating Gengo.com Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
