That would be absolutely useless in my case. I have considered having a separate office room at home, but even that would be just for style. A work corner in my living room is fine for me.

I used to have a very nice rented office outside of my home and that worked pretty well for some years (1985-1997), but when my youngest daughter left the nest I decided it was time to move my office home.

Yes, there are several mostly empty rooms in my house, but I prefer to work in a corner of the living room. It's lonely enough being a translator, so why would I shut myself away in an office? Here I can see everyone who comes and goes in and out, up and down, and it's nice to chat with the other members of the household as they pass through. On the rare occasions that I've had to concentrate hard at a time when everyone else is relaxing, I simply take my laptop to one of the empty rooms.
Of course there is the option of co-working spaces, but I imagine that to be a very special form of hell where you might find yourself sharing with all sorts of weirdoes, I much prefer being alone to that.

When we bought our flat 15 years ago, we bought it because it has a separate room in the cellar (with windows) and that has been my daily retreat since then. Before my wife was sent into "Mobile office" because of the pandemic, in the summer, I always used to work on the balcony until midday when she cam e back from work, but now I am permanently in the cellar.

I would say that I won't bother to rent a specific office for my freelancing business.
I do all my business directly from the cozy corner of my house. So I think it's not necessary.

If there's something I won't do with my money is to throw it away. Having an office, for a freelance translator, is one of the most useless and undue uses of one's money.
