There are many things I do that are not for money, but although I love translating and I'm fascinated by it, I do like to be paid.

To quote an Italian friend: "anything that has no price also has no value".

I don't need to worry too much about money as I receive a comfortable pension, but I'm hoping that by keeping my brain active, I will keep some old-age diseases at bay!

Money is not an issue for me, my partner earns heaps of money and I have another stream of income too.
If I keep on working, it's because my financial independence is important to me, and because I really love my job.
I can retire in a few years, and I've already decided that I'll probably drop most agencies at that point. I'll only keep the direct clients who give me the most interesting work, and one agency that also sends me really interesting texts.

If money were not an issue, I would quit working and start hiking in every possible nature reserve around the world.

In fact, if money were not an issue, I would not consider quitting this toxic wasteland of an industry on a daily basis.

If I could have foreseen what the market would look like for me now, I wouldn't have specialized in translations at all.

Oh, yes Feb 27, 2023

I would still translate in the areas I prefer. I've got a couple of goals I still haven't achieved, so I wouldn't be ready to give up work yet.

That's what I aim for. I want to make enough money so that I don't have to worry about how many jobs I'll have to take on a month. To be able to pick and choose what is the best work for me, and what I will enjoy the most to work on.

This is the question, which each individual Feb 27, 2023

can answer only after the money will stop being an issue. I respect Maria Teresa's and Kay's answers.

However, money has a nasty habit of overpowering human minds. Laying your hand on a lot of it, or at least on a guaranteed endless supply to cover all daily needs/bills/treats and some, and seeing every obstacle to everything you've dreamt or didn't even dare to dream about (let's leave a 100-ft yacht out for now:-)

Sorry, I stopped being a starry-eyed idealist a long time ago.

Maybe, after you'll blow through your new wealth in 3-5 years like a few lottery millionaires did, you'll fall in love with translation again.
