Between not very often and almost never... Apr 27, 2023

I live alone with a very old dog (the poor thing is blind and deaf now). My interruptions are usually around her shouting for attention, food and walkies. As I was sick of cold callers, I disconnected my landline phone. So, now I can enjoy some peace and quiet and work (almost) without any interruptions…

Almost never these days Apr 27, 2023

I live in a very small quiet village, so the only interruptions here are some dogs barking and, occasionally, the postman. Right now, all you can hear are some birds singing. It can be a bit boring, actually, but good for your concentration.

Unless i turn off e-mail and other notifications... very oftern Apr 27, 2023

Constant connectedness and productivity are clearly at odds.
I try to mute all devices for 45 minutes at a time, otherwise the interruptions are to frequent to count.
Even with such a short mute time, I sometimes lose jobs because an hour passes between when the message was sent and when I respond.
One of the many paradoxes of modern day translation.

I tend to turn off the notifications, so that I don't hear the continuous "bzzz" "bzzzz".
It helps a lot.
I leave phone calls available, though. You can never know.

Cat Apr 27, 2023

I'm periodically interrupted by my cat, which jumps up on to my desk and sits on my keyboard.

No children at home, no spouse, no pets. My phone rejects callers not in my contacts list. My friends generally don't call or send texts before 5 in the afternoon unless we're meeting for lunch. My neighbors are generally quiet. In warm weather the grounds crew of my condominium mows the grass on Wednesday mornings, so I either turn up the music or run errands.

My dog will let me know if I miss treat time, toy time or dog park time, and will bark any time a cat or pigeons might venture into the garden.
My partner usually comes down for breakfast right as I'm hard at work.

We also have a new intercom system which takes photos of whoever rings the doorbell, so now I have to deal with whoever has rung the doorbell and satisfy my partner's curiosity because he gets the photo on his phone as a notification, and can't wait till evening to know why that person came to the door.

All in all it seems that I get interrupted more than those who've already answered. I'm used to it because I could never work for long without an interruption when I was working at the agency.

This sounds like a gross violation of personal data protection and privacy laws. You could be fined up to 300,000 EUR or jailed for 26 months according to GDPR provisions. I suggest that you contact a legal expert today!
Joke aside, this does sound like a violation of personal data and privacy. I've been translating privacy policies long enough to know that a person's image is their personal property and it can't be obtained by another without their consent. So the person whose photo has made it to your partner's phone can make a nuisance of himself if he so chooses...

Very often Apr 27, 2023

Oh well very often...
My wife sends me messages which involve a conversation (just for fun)
She works all day and I do the same but I work at home, so I am the one who makes lunch and dinner for the kids, who drives them to play sport o music lessons (they usually go by bus, but sometimes they cannot).
And then friends who are having a break at work or who are driving for work and "want to chat a bit".

Ah sorry, my mother, who lives far from my town and usually calls me like at 11:30 am and she asks: what are you doing?
Oh well nothing mum, trying to earn some money for food and bills and rent..
Then she starts telling me about people I haven't seen or heard for almost 30 years now and (my mistake) if I accidentally ask: "sorry who is he/she?" - well she spends one hour telling me all the family connections of that person and what he/she has done in her life.
AH then my wife comes back home and she sits in front of me and starts talking like I am just playing with my mobile...
enough?

I can go on with further examples.. but you got the picture, right?

ah yes, Keki Lawyers Inc will be hearing from me forthwith!

I'm pretty sure it's illegal too, I don't think you're allowed to take photos of people without their consent. Here there are signs to warn people when they enter a place where they might be filmed or recorded. So I'm rather perplexed that the option even exists. If there were a sign on the doorbell that might cover it, but I'd rather simply get rid of the option.

The use of CCTV cameras in the EU and the EEA requires compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), but there are a few things one has to do towards GDPR compliance otherwise all the CCTV systems installed everywhere would be illegal. AFAIK one of the exceptions to the provisions is legitimate interest and ensuring the safety and protection of individuals and property must be a legitimate interest…
