Oral tradition's role in environment conservation has long been acknowledged. To create a sacred image on some forest or area, could protect the selected forest or area from the exploitation done by mankind.

As stated by Susanto P.S. (1987); that within its types, myths can be viewed as sacred history at the very beginning of time, myths also reveal a creative acts and supernatural creatures to define their sacred works. Hence myths, which create awareness about some places, have a creative purpose to be able to protect an area. This area refers to an area that to some tribal people are obliged to protect. Apparently the Tribal people around Wangi wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia, and Binongko in short known as WaKaToBi, (Wakatobi) also use/ present a myth to support indirectly their numerous protected area (Sumimam Udu, 2012).

The research on 2012 declared that some conservation area (marine and terrestrial) in Wakatobi have mythical stories to protect those area. Stories that construct society's point of views in conducting conservation to the environment (marine and terrestrial) in Wakatobi are: (1) Untu Wa Ode tales for Untu Wa Ode protected area in Koreo village, Wangi Wangi sub-district, (2) Sangia Pasi Koko tales to protect Pasi Koko reef, (3) ) Mo'ori tales to protect forest protected area in Suo-Suo fort in Tomia, (4) Golden Crocodile tales to protect Mangrowe forest in Mbara-Mbara, Togo Binongko sub-district.

Through those stories, tribal people of Wakatobi can encourage the local societies to have an awareness of the importance of environment conservation in Wakatobi. In the other hand, there are penalties for any of them who trying to destruct or exploit the environment. These penalties include: drowned, condemned, and plague.
