Dear All,

I am a firm believer in mentoring the younger/less experienced generation of translators, but is mentoring equivalent to having your generosity abused?

I am asking because over the past few hours an incognito (no name, no CV, no affiliation) member of Proz has been using Kudoz repeatedly to obtain help with what looks like a document he is translating. Others, including me, have replied to questions, yet he has failed to acknowledge our help, or close the ques

I also find it incomprehensible why someone would join Proz (which is after all about exposure and networking, collaboration and marketing), only to remain totally incognito.

Your thoughts on this are very much appreciated.

Totally agree! May 4, 2004

I am sorry, I have not noticed your posting, and posted a topic myself; not exaclty the same, but something similar. My concerns are:

a) they are members of Proz and do not want to reveal themeslves, or even worse ...

b) that by answering, we are encouraging some not to do any work themeslves, and instead leave it to others to help them with good intentions.

May 11, 2006

See more

That having been said. I have had the help of many of the present translators ( not to mention Sam and Musab) especially my brother Abdulouadud Al-Omrani without whom the translations I have done would have been difficult. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to name the resources a translator can exhaust before seeking the help of his or her more knowledgeable colleagues.
