Could anyone please tell me if there is a VAT threshold for freelance translators in France, and if so what it is? Also, is it necessary to have liability insurance if only freelancing on a part-time basis and dealing with agencies only? | | | VAT: Micro BNC threshold | Feb 17, 2005 |

See Howto article http://www.proz.com/howto/209 for more detailed information. Agencies should have independent proofreaders, therefore personal liability is almost impossible to establish.

Go to your local tax center, the people there are ready to answer your questions, that's their job. When you declare yourself as a tranlsator at URSSAF, they usually tell you to go straight to your local tax office for VAT information. Good luck Natalia ▲ Collapse | |

Have a look at www.apce.com | Feb 21, 2005 |
Hi eva75, You might want to check out the site of the Assoc pour la Création d'Entreprises (www.apce.com) which is incredibly helpful and has a wealth of info on financial, tax, legal and other questions when you're just getting established. It was indispensable to me when I went independent a couple of years ago, especially as my local tax office wasn't terribly helpful. Bonne chance!
