Can foreigner be easy to find translation job in US?

I am in Asia and am trying to find some translation jobs in US because I find the rate of the same language pair in US is much higher than here.

I have bid some jobs on English->Chinese tranlsation in US or EU posted on the website. Unfortunatly I cannot get a single one.

So I guess there must be some restrictions in US for the outsourcer to assign their jobs to a person outside US. Is it true? Or are there any other reasons?

... I mean legal restrictions, to my knowledge. I currently live in Brazil and work for some US clients (for whom I worked while I was living in the US). However, some of my old clients decided not to continue working with me when I told them I was moving. The reasons given were that they felt uncomfortable working with someone living so far; that they thought it would be too complicated to solve job details (such as phone calls and payments. A weak excuse since I kept a US checking account and a long distance phone service). One client did mention that the company's policy was to hire only persons residing in the US.

Nevertheless, the main reason in your case -in my opinion- might be tough competition if, as you mention, translators in your country of residence have lower rates. If you increase your prices, you will have to compete with theirs, which apparently are lower.

From my experience, being specialized in a particular field might help to find clients in the US; otherwise, just make sure that your prices are in a reasonable range for your pair, be patient and keep exploring.

Hello,

I would concentrate my efforts on contacting agencies in the US that specialize in Asian languages. They would be the ones who would most appreciate the fact that you live in Asia and the ones who will have the most into Chinese work.

Thank you for these helpful information. You mentioned that I can find many of this kind of agencies with search engine. Could you please recommend several of this kind of search engines? I use google to search, but I find too many that are not related.
