In the midst of your daily routine tasks, take a moment to remember the man who meant so many things to whole generations.
I was a bit latecomer myself, having been born when the White Album came out, but I still remember the shock I felt on December 8th, 1980.

I lived still more to the east in all meanings (geographical and political) at the time, so you, from a "looser" Hungary, may understand what I mean when I say that John was among my first teachers of the most important subject in life - freedom. Then there came other (and some of them, better) teachers, but he was one of the first...

Regretfully the Human Race seems not to listen and change... If you can remeber there was another very famous poet and singer who died in 1980 (from the other side of the Iron Curtain)...

Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans..
I guess Lennon would tell us to LIVE!!
I still remember I was studying for my December exams when he was killed and I cried all day long.. I was shattered! I was sitting for Sociology exam the next day.
Another song I love, is the Xmas Song, beautiful song to listen, specially now. Lennon rules!

Sadly and ironically, the only thing we as human race have ever learned from our own history is that - to many people's surprise - we don't learn much from it.

aren't they those who made us eager to learn foreign languages and cultures? The two mentioned in this thread certainly did it to me - as a kid I was spending hours with the dictionary trying to get to the real meanings - that must have been my first translation attempts
Thank you for that.

My first ever English "sentences" were just a list of randomly juxtaposed words copied randomly from the covers of my parents' Beatles albums - roughly around the time when John took his last steps from the Dakota House.

Magda
I was about 16 years old and was translating "Girl" (for fun). I soon realized that "Is there anybody going to listen to my story?" was not to be translated as a 'going to future', there was something else there.
And here I am still translating not (only) for fun.

Learning about the killing of John Lennon through the News remains as an instant photo-of-the-mind, exactly like I will always remember where I was and with whom and what I was doing when they announced the killing of JFK.
I grew up with The Beatles... and today brings me for a moment 25 years back in time, to the great loss I felt, such a waste of a very special mind, such talent... lost in the second of a bullit's flight...
