Term adding in trados 2021 takes 4-5 seconds and writing is prohibited in that time period

This is extremely distasteful for a translator and I can see complaints from 2013 about the same old slow term adding.

My termbase file only has 162 entries and it takes 4-5 seconds. How is this possible?

Time ago I have complained this behaviour, since then things have changed provided you use the right key combo for quick adding terms.
