Description | The Southern California Area Translators and Interpreters Association (SCATIA) is a non-profit organization of individuals and corporations engaged in the profession of providing translation, interpretation, and other language-related services. SCATIA was founded in 1976 by a small pioneering group of translators and interpreters who discovered the professional merits of meeting and socializing with colleagues. The informal gatherings have evolved into an organization of almost 250 individual members, 20 corporate members, and 1 student member. In 1988, SCATIA was awarded chapter status in the American Translators Association (ATA). All SCATIA meetings and events are open to anyone who wishes to attend. Events cover various topics of interest to translators and interpreters. The topics vary and include educational sessions approved for CIMCE credits by the Judicial Council of California, presentations, workshops, discussions, social gatherings, job fairs, and, starting with our first one in 2000, annual conferences. In addition, SCATIA also sponsors the ATA accreditation exam held in July for the Southern California area. |
