English to Hungarian: Section from th Epilogue of "The Rocket Boys" by Homer H. Hickam Jr. - unpublished translation.
Source text - English My father resisted his black lung and kept going on into the mine. When the day came that I inherited his books they included a few of poetry which surprised me a little. Some of them even had cold dirt on them, enough so I knew he had taken them inside with him. While everybody who knew him figured he was in the mine studying the roof or worrying over ventilation at the face, I wonder now if he wasn't sitting alone in the gob on an old timber with a book of poetry illuminated by his miner lamp. Which poems he enjoyed there I am not certain, but of all of them that were blackened by coal, he circled but one:
Have you ever sat by the railroad track
and watch the emptys cuming back?
lumbering along with a groan and a whine—
smoke strung out in a long grey line
belched from the panting injun's stack
—just empty's cuming back.
I have and to me the emptys seem
like dreams I sometimes dream—
of a girl —or munney— or maybe fame—
my dreams have all returned the same,
swinging along the homebound track
—just empties cuming back.

Translation - Hungarian Az apám a fekete tüdeje ellenére továbbra is lejárt a bányába. Amikor eljött a nap, és megörököltem könyveit, némi meglepetésemre, találtam néhány verseskötetet is köztük, s a szénpor egyeseken árulkodott arról, hogy levitte őket magával. Míg mindenki, aki ismerte őt, abban a hitben volt, hogy az apám a bányában vizsgálja az ácsolatot vagy a fejtési frontnál aggodalmaskodik a szellőzés miatt, valójában talán magányosan üldögélt a meddőnél egy régi bányafán egy verseskötetet olvasgatva bányászlámpájának fényénél. Hogy mely versekben lelhette ott örömét, nem tudhatom biztosan, de a szénportól feketéllő könyvek versei közül egyetlenegyet bekarikázott:
Láttad-e már a vágányokon
mikor visszatér a sok üres vagon
s dörögve nyögi el panaszos dalát,
hosszú füstcsík jelzi fáradt sóhaját—
s nem látszik a ziháló vén mozdonyon,
—hogy mind csak kongó üres vagon
Én láttam s olyan volt, mint az álom
mely néha jön, de sokszor várom—,
egy lány —vagy pénz— vagy siker talán—
egyként fordultak az idő mozdonyán,
s hazafelé lengtek a vágányokon
—mind csak kongó üres vagon.
