Before going freelance, I worked for the UK Government Procurement Executive for 25 years, following the normal career path through Contracts, Sales and HR, while freelancing for MoD Linguistic Services, before joining them as a full-time professional translator for 15 years, with a range of work translating from German, Swedish, Norwegian and Dutch in the fields of R&D and Intelligence.

I have a BA in Scandinavian Studies, an MA (with distinction) in German, and a Diploma in Purchasing and Supply. 

I see translation as reproducing the meaning of a source text in a target language (rather than "dictionary translation"), and customers of my technical translation both into and from English have mistaken my work for original text in the target language.
