I would like to know if there are any aligners out there that

• can save the TM in .txt format
• can do a good job at aligning, obviously

Do you have any tool you prefer? Please do not post about Plus Tools, I am looking for an alternative. Cheers!

Best free aligner: LF Aligner: http://sourceforge.net/projects/aligner/
Best paid aligner: AlignFactory (Light): http://www.terminotix.com/index.asp?name=AlignFactory_Light&content=item&brand=1&item=11&lang=en

Thank you, Michael Jun 17, 2014

But doesn't LF Aligner only save it in .tmx format?

What kind of .txt format do you need? Jun 17, 2014

Hi Diana,

You said ‘save the TM in .txt format’, but what do you mean exactly by this? What kind of .txt format do you need? Do you mean a Trados .txt TM? A Wordfdfast .txt TM? Etc.?

LF Aligner creates a number of .txt files in a special folder for each project. I just ran a test project and found the following in my project folder: an Excel file, a tab-delimited text file, and the source files.

LF Aligner creates a number of .txt files in a special folder for each project. I just ran a test project and found the following in my project folder: an Excel file, a tab-delimited text file, and the source files.

Furthermore, you can convert TMXs to all kinds of .txt formats using APSIC Xbench.

Michael

PS: the best program to open the tab-delimited text files (or any delimited format, for that matter) generated by LF Aligner (if you are on Windows), is Ron’s CSV Editor: http://www.ronsplace.eu/Products/RonsEditor ... which will open the files in a sort of Excel-like interface with columns and rows for easy viewing/editing.

You are so right, Michael Jun 17, 2014

I forgot about Xbench! I'll look into LF Aligner then

Thanks.

WfConverter will let you convert a TMX into a Wordfast TM in a breeze.

As to LF Aligner (which is indeed excellent), you may want to have a look at this short video of mine on how to use it.
