[,,,]The dragon was overjoyed to see him [the child] again and to show its delight the dragon hissed with such force that it frightened everyone around him and they fled in terror. Of course, the child stayed put. So the dragon, now sad, admitted to the child that it was confused. "I'm no longer myself: I don't know who I am anymore", the dragon told the child. And a big tear began to fall from its eyes, which having lost their brightness had turned opaque and watery. "You made me think about my behavior. It's true, I am not a bad creature. And I don't want to become one. But acting bad earned me recognition. People were scared of me, my overpowering strength, my fire and my hisses. No one dared approach me. And they respected me. But now ..." The child could sense the dragon's sadness. "What about now..?" "I'm ashamed to admit it, but even the other day...a boy approached me. And because I seemed harmless and relaxed, he tugged on my tail! Another boy tried to poke his fingers into my nostrils from which I once breathed fire. And another began playing around with my wings and tried to open them up after I had folded them in to rest. Long story short, everyone teases me and they say I don't frighten a soul..." | Entry #38165 — Discuss Winner

[...]The dragon was delighted to see the little boy and so for the occasion, he discharged a hiss that scared everyone around him to the point that they all hightailed it out of there. Of course, the little boy hadn’t run away. And so the dragon, now saddened, admitted his confusion to him. “I’m not myself anymore; I don’t know who I am now,” he told the child. A large tear ran down from his eyes that no longer shone, but had turned watery and dull. “You’ve made me think about my behaviour. It’s true – I’m not a bad guy. And I don’t want to be one, either. But before, when I behaved like a bad guy, I was recognized. People were afraid of me – of my strength, my fire, my hisses! Nobody came near me. And they respected me. Instead, now...” The little boy felt the dragon’s pain. “Instead, now...?” “I’m ashamed to say it. But even just the other day...a boy approached me. And since I seemed to stay so nice and calm, he pulled my tail. And another one tried to stick his fingers in my nostrils where I used to shoot fire. And then, someone fiddles around with my wings, trying to open them when I had closed them to rest. Honestly, now they all make fun of me, saying that I don’t scare anybody...” [...] | Entry #38008 — Discuss

[…] The dragon was happy to meet the boy again and hissed so loudly that everyone around him hastily scurried away. Of course, the boy didn’t flee. The wistful dragon confessed to him his sorrows. ‘I am not myself; I don’t know who I am anymore,’ he said. A huge teardrop rolled down his cheek, his eyes were no longer bright but opaque and watery. ‘You made me think about my behaviour. It is true, I am not bad, and I don’t want to be bad. But before, when I behaved viciously, I had a reputation. Everyone was afraid of me, afraid of my strength, my fire, my hisses. Nobody ever came close to me. They respected me. But now…’ The boy felt the dragon’s pain. ‘And now…?’ ‘I’m ashamed to say it, but one of the kids… he just came to me one day, and since I behaved well and calmly, he pulled on my tail. Another kid tried to stick his finger in my nostrils, from where I breathed fire not that long ago. Then some kids play with my wings, they want me to spread them when I just closed them to rest. All in all, now I’m a laughing stock, and they say I can’t frighten anyone…’ […] | Entry #38398 — Discuss

[…] The dragon was happy to see him again, and to mark the occasion, he made a hissing sound that startled the crowd around him to such an extent that they all took to their heels and ran off. The child, of course, had done nothing of the sort. So the dragon, who had grown sad, confessed his confusion. “I’m not myself anymore: I don’t know who I am anymore,” he told him, a fat tear falling from his eyes, which were no longer bright, but had become dull and watery. “You made me think about my behaviour. You’re right, I’m not bad. And I don’t want to be. But by acting like the bad guy before, I’d made a name for myself. People were afraid of me, of my strength, my fire, my hissing. No one would come near me. And they respected me. Now, though…” The child felt the dragon’s pain. “Now though…?” “I’m ashamed to say it. But the other day, would you believe… this boy came up to me. And because I kept on acting all nice and quiet, he pulled my tail. And another tried to stick his fingers into my nostrils, right where I used to breathe fire. And then there are the ones who mess around with my wings, trying to pull them open when I’ve closed them to have a rest. I mean, everyone makes fun of me now. They say I couldn’t scare a fly…” […] | Entry #38291 — Discuss

[...] Joy filled the dragon upon seeing the boy once again, a roar leaving its maw that caused the surrounding people to flee hastily in fear. Naturally, the boy did not run, and the now-saddened dragon soon baring its confusion. "I am myself no more; I know not who I am anymore", they sniveled. A giant tear rolled down its scaled cheek, clouded and watery without luster. "You made me think on my actions. It is true, I am not evil. And I do not want to be so. However, acting evil made people recognize me. They feared my mighty strength, my scorching fire, my bellowing roars; they truly feared me. With frightened reverence, they dared not approach. But now..." The boy heard pain in the dragon's voice. "But now...?" "I am ashamed to say it, but one day there was... a young boy who approached me. Due to my calm and friendly demeanor, he pulled on my tail. And another one attempted to place their fingers in the nostrils of my snout where I once hurled flame. Then a third diverted themselves with my wings, attempting to unfurl them when I had done the opposite in order to rest. And now I am treated as if harmless, as one who strikes fear into the hearts of no one...". [...] | Entry #38018 — Discuss
