I am thinking it is a type of sports court...but "de tierra"?
I know "de tierra batida" is clay court, but I believe this is more of a dirt court. Any idea what we call this in English?

Well, it's not clay, but something a bit more rudimentary such as 'gravel'. I'm can't tell here whether it's a tennis court or a running track or something else...but the 'tierra' could certainly be gravel.
