It would (might) help ... ... if we knew what sports this refers to. In particular, 'individual' might refer to the 'singles' matches in tennis, for example, as distinct from the 'doubles; or it might just mean 'separate' in the sense of 'alpine' skiing as something 'separate' from 'cross-country' skiing.
