No Nora, "pane americano" is simply bigger, not softer: I've worked in a bar during my uni years and I know it all too well :-) Pane da tramezzini is the super-soft, white type, this is simply sliced bread, but bigger, usually with a crust as well. It gest really crunchy when you toast/grill it :-)

as in for tramezzini? Are we talking about that super-soft, super-white bread used for tramezzini? Closest thing is an old brand name (Wonderbread) but this certainly wouldn't sell any sandwiches these days! :)
