Proceso de impresión

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing
I'm translating a risk analysis on a spreadsheet with quite a bit of technical terminology, which is not my cup of term. In a column there is from top to bottom: PREPARACIÓN DE CLISSES (MONTAJE), PREPARACIÓN DE TINTAS, PROCESO DE IMPRESIÓN, etc.

I came across "imprimir una tinta sobre otra" translated as "trapping" in Routledge Spanish Technical Dictionary. I'm seeing hits of "ink trapping" on the web. Based on this, my thought is rendering proceso de impresión as "trapping process".

Thoughts?

printing process

Hi Seth. "impresión" just means "printing".

Cheers

Simon

From the RAE:

impresión
1. f. Acción y efecto de imprimir.

From the Oxford Spanish:

imprimir [I36] verbo transitivo

A

1 (Imprenta e Industria editorial) to print; impreso en Perú printed in Peru

But the ink is used in some form of printing, right?

I'm afraid I don't understand your point. Printing is a process that involves ink. I'm afraid your idea that your text cannot contain the concept "printing" purely because it's about ink and not about printers makes no sense to me. "proceso de impresión" is "printing process" (the printing process in which the ink is used?), I think it's pretty clear.
Note from asker:
The report is not talking about printers but ink (tintas)
I'm translating a risk report concerning industrial processes of ink. Nothing about printers or papers, so printing cannot work (you print paper, not ink). Note my indication of "imprimir una tinta sobre otra" translated as "trapping" in Routledge Spanish Technical Dictionary.

Hi Neil. Why so? Check the RAE for 'impresión'
agree philgoddard : It says "impresión", and that makes perfect sense.

priming process

See my reference comments below. If the Spanish should have read "imprimación", then "primer/priming process" would be the appropriate solution.

There are a lot of websites that refer to the inking process. Could this be what you're looking for?

POSSIBLE NATIVE ERROR

There may be an error in the Spanish original, which perhaps should read "imprimación", from the verb:
IMPRIMAR
1. tr. Preparar con los ingredientes necesarios las cosas que se han de pintar o teñir.
