Spanish term

en nutricion

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
This is from a discharge/death summary of a patient with progression of cancer and symptoms of nausea & vomiting.
In their "tratamiento domiciliario" section it mentions "metoclopramido en nutricion".
On first reading I assumed this meant "with meals/food", but later in the report I see the patient is on total parenteral nutrition (TPN). It is not clear if they were on this TPN at home or only in hospital. I am also unsure if you can give medications in a TPN line, so I am puzzled as to whether this means "with meals" or "with TPN" I am leaning towards TPN.
Exact context:
"tratamiento domiciliario: fentanilo parches 25+12 mcg/c72h; Avaric sublingual; Dexametasona 4mg por las mananas; metoclopramida en nutricion; Alprazolam vo/c8h; paracetamol y noletil a demanda"
Maybe someone has seen this used in another similar context and knows which it means!
Sorry my accent keys are not working!
Thanks in advance for suggestions...

Discussion

Dr Jane Marshall (asker) Feb 23, 2022:
Thanks to everyone who has made a suggestion or posted links. In the end I left is as simply "in nutrition" which doesn't sound very nice to my ears but is the same amount of detail as given in the original (which I take to mean in parenteral nutrition bag). Good to get input from colleagues :)
Helena Chavarria Feb 21, 2022:
I'm not a doctor but according to what I've read I understand that metoclopramide is compatible with parenteral nutrition. You text states 'en nutrición' not 'en comida/s'.

I would translate it as 'metoclopramide in nutrition'.

adding metoclopramide into the parenteral nutrition bag

It is my understanding that this is what they mean -- adding the drug directing into the nutrition bag.

It is often done because of advantages such as avoiding the need to give additional fluids (in separate lines) in patients with fluid restriction, etc.

agree slothm : parenteral metoclopramide. (summary, no need for details).

Yes, but the point is adding the drug to the food bag, not using a separate line for it.

in regards to nutrition

I guess for ''en nutricion'' this would be the best and shortest option

Finally, recommendations are presented not to abandon use of metoclopramide in ICU patients, because metoclopramide is considered effective in enhancing gastric emptying and facilitating early enteral nutrition.
