French term

cadre éducatif

French to English Other Education / Pedagogy bulletin scolaire - report card
I ve been translating a series of report cards of a French high school from French to English.

I d like to know the equivalent of CADRE EXECUTIF at the end of this card after - APPRECIATIONS et SIGNATURE DU PROFESSEUR PRINCIPAL, as in SIGNATURE DU CADRE EDUCATIF, close to SIGNATURE du DIRECTEUR.

Can I translate this term to EDUCATIONAL EXECUTIVE/ MANAGER or EXECUTIVE TEACHER?

Thanks a lot in advance for your comment and suggestions

Pastoral care rather than teaching subjects? If cadres éducatifs are the same as CPEs (see above), how do you translate CPE into English? I'd say they're more concerned with pastoral care than with teaching subjects and the translation should reflect that.
Adrian MM. May 3, 2022:
scattergun-translation cadre @ Phil G. Our answers are not Anglocentric, but used internationally. Otherwise, your scattergun and inconclusive translation for cadre misses not only the obvious rendering of 'executive' already entered, but leaves out half of the translation, namely the tricky part of éducatif : education, educational, teaching-related. learning-support etc.
philgoddard May 3, 2022:
Jennifer and Adrian You're being too anglocentric. What this job would be called in the UK is not relevant, since this is about France. "Cadre" simply means a manager, officer, supervisor, anything like that.
ph-b (X) May 3, 2022:
Like a CPE, but in a private school? A quick search shows that a cadre éducatif does in a private school what a CPE does in a state school. There's some info from Pôle Emploi here: http://www.soi-tc.fr/assets/fiches_pe/FEM_K2104.pdf A practical example here: https://www.ecolemassillon.com/etablissement/organisation-pe... Other site seem to confirm this, like this one: https://cadreduc.forumsrpg.com/t46-cadre-educatif (2nd message).

possibly curriculum head/head of curriculum

This is what an education officer does Function
An education officer provides teaching services for schools and other educational groups. They make arrangements for courses, programs and meetings that develop educational objectives. The officer ensures educational programs meet with standards and quality of performance. Development plans for education services are made by the officer through talks, seminars, courses, meetings and demonstrations. Educational resources are developed, prepared and managed by educational officers. Training and staff development also are prepared by these officers. Educational equipment and material are maintained and secured by education officers as well.

This is clearly not the case here.

Executive officer

I think "cadre executive" could be replaced by "Executive officer", which sound more native to the English language.

Secondary-School Teaching Director

French high school ? - Lycée privé ou public or a borstal: une maison d'éducation surveillée ou enfants délinquants : the latter institutions very much in the frame during my school days. Not very clear from the question.

I'll leave Jennifer W. to post HOC I had also thought of and IMO is subsumed under the wider-ranging remit of an Education or Teaching Director - Head (US AmE: Director) of Curriculum, though the meaning is not uniform across English-speaking countries. Paradoxically, Head of Curriculum Development - in Oz Down Under and nearest Thailand - covers an education authority area, rather than a single school.
Example sentence:

cadre éducatif > l'activité de ce métier s'exerce au sein des écoles et des établissements d'enseignement du *second degré*, en relation avec différents intervenants (directeur, enseignants, personnels administratifs, parents, éducateurs)

An education / teaching director oversees a school's curriculum and academic resources, guides and trains teachers and other staff

HEAD OF EDUCATION
The head of the educational service supervises the socio-educational teams in contact with users and acts as an interface between them and the management.

Missions of an educational service manager

The head of the educational department is a socio-educational executive endowed with a strong field culture, who is an integral part of the management team of an establishment. He is generally no longer in direct contact with the users of a structure.

His role ? Supervise, coordinate and lead a socio-educational team, while ensuring the implementation of the unit or service project. He is also an administrative manager (these tasks have moreover greatly developed in recent years, taking him away from the field) and budget manager, responsible for fostering partnerships and networking.

Where do heads of education work?

Heads of educational services work in a large number of social and medico-social establishments or services in the child or adult disability sectors (medico-educational institutes, Esat, etc.).

They can also work with people, especially young people, with psychological or behavioral problems (medico-psychological centres, educational and pedagogical therapeutic institutes, etc.) as well as in the field of child protection and the structures of support for adults and families in difficulty .

Thanks a lot, Phil, do have a good and healthy month!
disagree Jennifer White : Not in this case. An education officer is responsible for schools in his area and would not be signing report cards such as this./an education officer is responsible for a group of schools and would have no dealings with pupils. Matter closed.

"a series of report cards of a French high school"
I think you stuck on a meaning which is really... not so important. It does not mean I wish you to ignore this but I learned during the years a lesson: do not translate literally but try to find an equivalent. If this is the only thing which is missing, you can finish your translation :) best of luck.
Executive in this context will convey the appropriate meaning because the person has an executive capacity - IMHO
