Spanish term

foco quístico parapielico

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
I am working on a colonoscopy report from Costa Rica. This particular term is giving me a hard time.

"Riñón de forma y tamaño conservado, con foco quístico parapielico de 15 x 33 mm en tercio inferior."

I am confused as to what this is referring to. I am not under the impression that the kidney has a cyst, so I don't know what the "foco quístico" would be.

Thanks in advance!

¡Lo que sería extraño es que el extracto referido fuera parte del informe de una colonoscopia! ;)

parapelvic cyst / parapelvic cystic lesion

It's definitely talking about a cyst, it even gives you its size. Parapelvic cysts are often benign and usually lie adjacent to the renal pelvis.

renal cysts

Kidneys can often have cysts. Here is one text that discusses these, and a couple of links to refer to:

Renal cysts are sacs of fluid that form in the kidneys. They are usually characterized as "simple" cysts, meaning they have a thin wall and contain water-like fluid. Renal cysts become fairly common as people age and usually do not cause symptoms or harm. Because they rarely cause symptoms, renal cysts are most often found during imaging tests performed for other reasons.
