"Gösta Berlings saga" [Selma Lagerlöf, 1891] avviker påtagligt, både när det gäller stil och innehåll, från den förhärskande 1880-talsnaturalismen. Den karaktäriseras av en lyrisk, romantisk prosa, fylld av små utrop och personliga känsloutbrott. Till skillnad från "gråvädersrealismen" är det dessutom en värld av fest och äventyr som målas upp.

It has just occurred to me that \'kichen sink\' drama, or realism, is often used to describe that kind of literature. However, if the literature concerned deals more with affairs in the country rather than the town/city, \"grey skies\" is still fine.
