I have both a laptop and a desktop, but I prefer this one by far. I only use my laptop to work on my balcony when the weather is fine and I feel like it...

Definitely an iMac. This morning I migrated from a 27-inch late 2014 iMac (no longer supported by Apple) to a 27-inch 2020 iMac. I used the migration wizard and a backup disk. After 3 hours, everything was automatically migrated, even the virtual machine running Windows. And all Windows CAT tools were still enabled (even though the hardware is new). Wow, what a pleasant experience.

I used to travel a lot and used a MacBook Pro, which is in storage and waiting as my emergency backup computer if anything goes wrong with my main computer, which is a MacMini M1 driving a BenQ monitor and a wired Apple Italian keyboard and wired mouse.
I'm staying with Ventura because it's running smoothly. Apple doesn't excite me and I am never thrilled by any of the supposedly wonderful must-have new things they have to announce every year to create the impression that they are "innovating" (even though there is nothing they can do to renovate the MacOS, which is a mature, complete operating system). All they can do is introduce cosmetic tweaks that mess it up and that, by all the the accounts I read, is what they have done with Sonoma.

I prefer desktop. Because typing is very easy compared to laptop typing.

with Monterey OS and 27" Asus monitor from the PB series, wireless magic trackpad and wirless keyboard + portable display for outdoor work.
So "desktop" with plenty of space for multiple documents on the screen.
My MacMini is an older model (late 2014), but it is still working fine and I could update the OS.

My workplace is stationary and I do not work when I'm travelling, so a desktop PC with a full-size keyboard just makes more sense than anything else. Since I am still using the same PC for work and gaming, I am stuck with Windows, though I am thinking about a separate machine for work, which might turn out to be an iMac, since I'm trying to save desk space by switching to an all-in-one.

I am a lot on the road and always carry my Macbook with, but at home I have an additional monitor I connect it to. The Macbook is also perfect for voiceover recordings (Logic Pro + Røde NT Mini or external audio device + condenser mic) which I do from time to time. For travelling I'll get an iPad and use it as a second monitor.

I don't mind whether I use a desktop or laptop, but I only want one machine these days. I have in the past tried copying data back and forth between two machines and ensuring that everything was synced properly (TMs, termbases, etc.) was a nightmare.
Currently I have a small and rather elderly desktop, whose performance is adequate but not great. I forgive it because it cost me less than £200. However, portability is looking more useful to me. There was a time in my life when I made many long-haul flights (by which I mean more than six hours, and often 12) every year, and at such times a laptop was of course vital. I seldom travel these days, but over the past year we have had a number of planned power outages resulting from upgrades to local infrastructure by the electricity company. These outages lasted for most of the day and they did remind me of the advantages of being able to pick up one's PC and simply go somewhere else to work.
For that reason I am pondering a laptop for my next computer, probably a model with at least one Thunderbolt 4 connector and maybe with a decent Nvidia GPU, as these are becoming more useful outside gaming. The downsides are increased cost, difficulty of upgrades (in most cases), and poor performance relative to a desktop of a similar price.
For example, the otherwise exemplary Thinkpad P16 Gen 2 would cost me around £2,500 for a version with an Nvidia GPU. For that money I build myself a scorchingly fast desktop PC.
On the other hand, I could choose a consumer-level laptop like a Gigabyte Aorus for half the price of the P16 but with equal or better performance. On the other other hand, I don't know how long I could expect the latter to last, whereas I have a couple of ThinkPads here that are still working after a decade (sadly too slow to be used now though).
It should go without saying that under normal circumstances I would use an ergonomically sound external keyboard and a large monitor with the laptop.
