Hi folks,
Are there any WWJDIC-based Trados term bases out there? Or more generally, are there any term bases that make use of pre-existing general use JE dictionaries?
I've often thought that a term base that makes use of ALC's 英辞郎 data would be rather helpful, but I can't seem to find one.
Best, Dylan Luers

Copyright issues?

If you are thinking about sucking out the content from WWWJDIC and placing it on your computer (such as a local Trados termbase) you would be in violation of copyright, I think. More info here: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdicinf.html#copyr_tag Also, scroll down to "Running WWWJDIC locally". That section talks about sharing the source code, but I th... See more

WWWJDIC and Edict Confusion
Jan 14, 2014
Dear Katalin,
Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it.
I think I got confused between Edict and WWWJDIC. For some reason I thought they were the same thing. My apologies.
As a general comment, I'm rather surprised in general that there aren't more publicly available Japanese and Japanese-English dictionary files or servers for use with Trados. It would be nice not have to do be able to switch windows all the time to look things up. Or am I missing somethin... See more

Edict Data Use
Jan 14, 2014
Alexander,
Thank you for the link.
I have looked over that page. It doesn't seem like there is any information regarding Trados ... Unfortunately, I am using the Freelance version, so I cannot create dictionaries for us in Trados based on raw data.
