Translation theory – a mystery, a blessing, a curse? What does it mean to practitioners?
Presenters: Christian Schmidt and Marina Morgan (Freelance translators and AUSIT members)
"Translation Theory? ... Spare us!" you may say.
The workshop aims to identify past translation theories and what some have termed a modern "revolution". It explores why this is of essential relevance to today's practitioners. We would like you to come away with a better and clearer understanding of the value offered by translation theories in making us more effective language professionals.
Date: Saturday, 22 October 2011, 8.45 am for 9.00 am start, until 12.00 pm
(Workshop format: Presentation by Christian and Marina, followed by group discussions of real-life case studies)
Venue: Education Development Centre, Milner St, Hindmarsh (look for the room number on the information screen at reception) (street parking in the area or at the Entertainment Centre)
Cost: AUSIT/ASLIA members $30 - non-members $45 - students $20
AUSIT members: Attendance at this seminar is worth 20 PD points (Logbook, section 4.2).
