but a linguistics joke nonetheless

When my inlaws first went on holiday to benidorm they booked self catering because never having left Wigan before they didn't know if they would like the foreign food.
On the first night as MiL was cooking tea she realised she hadn't brought any gravy so Fil said he woulkd go and ask the apartment next door if they had any they could borrow.

He knocks on the door and a young English girl answers to which he says
