Word documents won't save completely Thread poster: Dr. Andrew Hudson

I use Windows 8.1 (haven't switched yet) and am encountering a problem saving a word document. It is 49 pages, but when I save it to the desktop and open it again, it only displays as 11 pages. I saved it as another name and converted it from compatability mode, but I can't get anything to work. Any ideas? Thanks for any advice. | | | Uldis Liepkalns Latvia Local time: 14:30 Member (2003) English to Latvian + ... Another format | Aug 7, 2015 |
Try to save as RTF or Open Office ODT. Or maybe try to save in another location, not desktop. I have no Idea about Win 8, but possibly there is size limitation to what you can save in desktop?

Try copying and pasting it by a number of pages at a time, say 15-15-19 pages, into a new Word document and see what happens. | | | Helen Hagon Local time: 12:30 Member (2011) Russian to English + ... Similar problem | Dec 8, 2015 |
Did you manage to solve this problem, Andrew? I'm having similar difficulties. Occasionally (not all the time, strangely) the computer just refuses to save my work. I'm using Windows 8.1 with the 2016 version of Office, on an Acer Aspire. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks Helen ▲ Collapse | |

Helen I am not sure how to solve this, but it's usually possible to save the problematic document with a different name (I just add "zzz" at the end of the file name so I know it is the newest version. Then I delete the original file; however, it is often necessary to terminate MS Word through Task Manager before that non-responsive file can be deleted). Helen Hagon wrote: I click on 'save' regularly That's a rather bad strategy: Any such click overwrites the previous version. If something goes wrong in between times, the previous version AND the current version might be lost. The solution: Save versions with different names and – whenever possible – on different media. E. g. versions 1,3,5,7 on media #1, versions #2,4,6,8, ... on media #2. Media can be hard disk, SSD, DVD-RAM, NAS, USB-Stick, ... Saving with different names is somewhat laborious, though. Except if you have a smart macro that does the job. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Word documents won't save completely TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
