That's my current lifestyle now. Sold everything last summer in Toronto to travel around the world for 3 years. It's been more than a year now. Started in Europe > Russia > SE Asia (cheap!). Will move on later this year eastwards across the Pacific...Just 2 1/2 bags, laptop, cameras, trekking shoes, dive gear and a whole lot of translation clients tagging along for the ride. It's working so far!

Last summer I managed to enjoy Croatia without rejecting a single job offer! Actually I spend half of a year for travelling in and out of Turkey.
June and August are usually slow for business and I wanted to use this chance. Some times I had to leave the beach and find the nearest wifi hotspot but all in all, working in a nice cafe with the help of my macbook air, noise cancelling head phones, cold beer, shorts & flip flops is not that bad!

You do not have to make plans about travelling or you do not need to save a lot before getting out of your place...Actually for the recent years I have both technically and mentally well evolved into being a translator-on-the-move. Next step: soon I will be a true digital nomad, planning to have a year around trip in South Asia or Latin America. ▲ Collapse

I really do envy you Marcus as you have posted about this a few times.

I do not travel often, but I always do work while in transit.
If I have to drive myself, I sing. So, you see, working is the better option for all concerned.

When living in London, I once had to go and physically collect a document for translation from the offices of a law firm. On the way back, the underground train broke down in the tunnel so I took out the document and started doing the translation by hand a piece of scrap paper.

I travel a lot (at least once a month) between Brussels and Lisbon for family reasons and, like Neil, I find it's the most fruitful way to pass the time in airport waiting areas...

Two years ago I spent a few days in Puglia in January. My flight home was cancelled due to snow closing the UK airports. My airline's next flight was in 3 days and fully booked but they offered me one from an airport a 2 hour train journey away - in 2 days time.
I had a deadline due in 2 days, hadn't finished the job and don't take a laptop with me when travelling.
Fortunately I had thought to send myself an e-mail with the half completed job attached and spent a day in an interne... See more Two years ago I spent a few days in Puglia in January. Like Alison, I don't travel often. However, when I am in transit -- buses, trains, planes or otherwise -- I still think about how I'm going to tackle a certain project, think through the details as much as possible, make memos and notes to myself or clear my mind for the day ahead.
Even though I am not physically pounding away on the keyboard, I still regard careful thinking as an important part of my work day.

If "while travelling" means while actually in motion, I've done it a few times, but I found my productivity was so low that I have stopped - I'm too easily distracted. On the other hand, I travel a lot and when not actually in the air I will continue work as if nothing happened. I use a dropbox on all my computers to store jobs underway and TMs, which means that wherever I am and on whichever of my computers, I always have a local version of what I'm working on.

I have worked quite a lot while riding the train. And the funny thing is that I was always very productive when I did, probably because there were fewer distractions and I didn't at that time have a mobile internet connection...
