Words to that effect.

Certain genotypes respond better to anti-viral treatments such as interferon. I happen to know this as I was successfully treated myself for hepatitis C a few years ago and was lucky enough to have the responsive genotype myself.

And...if, as Phil suggest, it refers to only one patient, you can tweak the sentence accordingly.

: I'm just not sure about "al paciente que lo requiere", as this apparently relates to one patient.// Yes, I think you're probably right.

Same difference. "... will be prescribed for the patient as/if required."

Genotype will be ordered to the patients that require it according the doctor's concept
Example sentence:

Discussion
As I understand it, Lorena's answer is slightly different, in that it means the doctor may order the test if he or she feels it necessary. The way I understood your wording, with the use of "prescribe", was as if genotyping were a kind of therapy (which it is clearly not).
Perhaps you will at least concede that "prescribe" is rarely used to mean "order" or "request" in this context, i.e., you wouldn't normally hear a phrase such as "X-rays will be prescribed for those patients that require it".
And obviously I might be completely wrong here, but it also occurred to me that you had taken Lorena's idea and adapted it (incorrectly).
Olive branch: I do agree with your interpretation of "concepto médico" as "medical criteria", though :-)
Just a question, for future reference, how would one generally translate or understand 'concepto médico'? Is that just something like 'patient profile' i.e. just the medical specifics of a particular case?
